Today we backfilled the sewer line, mixed concrete and poured it over the dirt and gravel backfill. Below, are the photos of the work. )
After getting cleaned up late this afternoon, MrBug took Savagefuzzball out to an empty parking lot and began teaching her the fundamentals of driving. She's taking driver's ed at school, this semester, and will be behind the wheel in about a month. Rather than send her to the teacher with no clue, whatsoever, we thought it would help if she had a feel for what's what (and where). They just came back a bit ago and MrBug gave our baby a glowing report. She picked up very quickly. :)

By this time tomorrow, I should be gainfully employed. I'm excited and apprehensive, all at once; it's been years since I was in the work force. The nice thing is the hours are flexible and I don't have to dress up. My kind of work!

Pictures of the Addition Sewer tie-in )

Savagefuzzball went to a friend's house for most of the evening. After all the sweaty, dirty work you see above, MrBug and I showered, went out to eat and then picked her up. From there we went to Coldstone Creamery for ice cream. When we got home, we went down in the basement to clean up a few things that were still lying about (a garden hose we'd used to flush the system, etc.) and watched a mouse run across the basement floor and into the block wall up to where we'd jackhammered. For years, I've watched our cat, Boots, sit in front of that wall and stare at a corn-kernel sized hole where the block wall and basement floor met. I thought she was just trying to freak me out. Obviously, she knew something I didn't. MrBug has stuffed a towel into the space for the evening. Tomorrow we'll replace the dirt and pour concrete and the mouse worries will be no more. Of course I'll set traps in the basement tomorrow, too, because goodness knows how many mice came out once we'd broken open their thoroughfare. One made itself known...others may be lurking. The only thing making me rest easy? - Boots is in for the night and she's already shown interest in the basement "renovation".

I have a new-found respect for my husband. Today, we jackhammered the basement floor and exposed the sewer line so we could tie into it for the powder room addition. I ran the jackhammer some, removed the pieces of concrete and shovelled the dirt. After MrBug cut through the old cast iron and removed a 3 - 4' section, we hooked up new 3" PVC pipe and fittings. It was back-breaking, sweaty, disgusting work but something I'll probably never have to do again. MrBug did it for over 20 years and still, on occasion (when unreliable men don't show up or just quit on him and something's scheduled), he'll still do it.

God bless manual laborers!

I'll probably post pictures, later.

Not that memes, phone posts and the like aren't great ways of communicating with my LJ friends, here, but I know other people read my posts (family, friends) and are probably thinking "We don't care what kind of file extention you are. What's going on in your life?"

Is that normal? I mean, I didn't even join to journal so much as I joined so I could respond to friends' journal entries. Now, I feel like I'm neglecting my account if I don't come write something periodically.

Still working on the addition. We weren't able to side the remainder, yesterday, as we had an end of the year Fan Club meeting. The Fan Club is a group of parents that formed in order to raise money for and help expediate the needs of the school's drama department (http://www.cabcallowayschoolofthearts.com/). For all of you who are bookcrossers you may remember me mentioning, on the fora, how busy I was last summer taking over the role of Advertising Chairperson from the extremely capable (and much more organized) hands of the woman who'd executed that position for years. I'm back on the ad solicitation trail, this summer; I'm sure it will be a smoother, less complicated matter now that I've had one season under my belt and know what I'm doing.

I'm ordering the fixtures for the bathroom, today. We're getting Kohler's Devonshire line toilet and pedestal sink. When I figure out what faucet we're getting, I'll let you know. The rough plumbing hasn't been done but we're getting the fixtures, now, anyway, because I want to move them around in the space and decide where I want them. I think the pedestal sink will go against the chimney brick. Image hosted by Photobucket.com Don't you think that will make a lovely impact?

As much as I'd like to sit here and blather on, I have to run to the school and pick up programs to mail out to the advertisers (to say "See how wonderful your ad looked with our program THIS year - surely you'll want to advertise in our Showbill NEXT school year, too!) and take photo CDs I compiled of the last performance(s) to the drama and vocal teachers. SFB spent the night at a friend's and she needs to be picked up, too. Then, it's back here to work on the siding some more.

Have a great day, everyone!

Of course, MrBug set it on "Arctic Blast" so I just creeped out there and nudged it up to "Polar Ice Caps" so my toes don't freeze. Sleeping, tonight, is going to be sooooo much nicer.

We did manage to put siding up on one more side of the addition before the rain came. It's a good thing, too, because tomorrow we have to attend a Fan Club meeting (officers to be elected) and won't have the time. We did get the thunderstorm predicted. When it came it was spectacular! The clouds just kept building and darkening and skating across the sky, then the trees began whipping around in a frenzy and lightning kept flashing all around. When the rain came, it came in torrents. I love high energy storms like that. :)

Well, it's getting late. Savagefuzzball and I have to be up early one last day and then school is over for another 'year'. Whoopee!

On Saturday, MrBug and a bunch of friends framed up the side porch and closed it in. In the process, the air conditioner unit was 'broken' (it can be fixed so at least it doesn't have to be replaced). Saturday wasn't too warm so it didn't matter. But, yesterday, it was stinking hot and brutally humid. MrBug and I hung siding for a few hours then I mowed the lawn while he trimmed. I was bright red in the face (so I know what you felt like after your run, Ant!) It was very difficult to fall asleep last night even sleeping sprawled, naked, under the fan.

Today it's so humid you can see the haze. I was drenched by the time I was halfway through my cardio workout, this morning. :oP Thank God MrBug is fixing the A/C unit after work, today. I suppose we'll hang a bit more siding (unless it thunderstorms which I heard it might) tonight. Hopefully it'll be done by the end of the week and we can start working on the inside of the room. I'm fairly bursting with excitement over this! :)

So, I was hot and uncomfortable last night and a bit, today, but I also have a bathroom in the works so how can I be cranky?

Do you believe I'm sitting here eating hot oatmeal? I must be insane. Well, off to shower and pick up Savagefuzzball from school. Tomorrow is her last day - can you believe that?! We're off to Old Navy, after school, because she "has no summer clothes". Nevermind the stuff I pulled out of her drawers, this morning; it either didn't fit or was eyeballed with the level of contempt that only teenagers can reach.

Have a great (cool) day!

That is SO me. I have the attention span of a caffeine-addicted flea, hopping from one thing to another.

In my defense, I've been diligently working on postcard(s) for Bookcrossing (for those of you who don't know what bookcrossing is, click on it! You won't be sorry). Whenever I'm doing something artsy, I lose time.

So, let's see - other than bookcrossing, what have I been doing that's of any interest to anyone? A friend let me borrow her "Ray" DVD. I watched that and knitted about half a 'furry' scarf during the first part (using this type of yarn). I had to go to bed and just finished watching the last bit while dusting the living room (See, I'm not only clever, I'm diligent, too!). What can I say but watch this movie!; Jamie Foxx's Ray Charles is a 'must see'.

I made another batch of tapenade, last weekend, this time using roasted red peppers. It was 10x better than the plain olive batch I made before. I transcribed it from the piece of printer paper I jotted it down on to a recipe card - that's how good it was.

OMG, I can't believe I didn't mention it before. Tomorrow morning (it's after midnight so it's officially Friday), our side porch is beginning its 'make over'. Soon that useless space will be a powder room and our little old house will have two (count them - TWO!) potties. Fan me, I feel a little faint.

I should be in bed and I'm going to curse myself, tomorrow, when the alarm goes off at 6am so I'll 'say goodnight, Gracie'.

Goodnight, Gracie!

*smoochies*
