Yet another question

Does anyone know or has anyone heard if there's a movie in the making based on the Jasper Fforde "Thursday Next" series of novels? I'm reading Something Rotten at the moment and think the man is the most bloody brilliant farcical writer in a long time. I'd love to see Hollywood do the character of Thursday Next justice but I'd bet they had someone completely wrong play her...someone sexed up for the screen.

(I'm seriously considering this purchase!)

*Edited to add: I just converted GBP to USD and as much as I'd like this t-shirt, I'm not paying over $25 for it. :(

Well... I haven't heard of anything... but I'd love to see that movie....

But I'd prefer if it was a British/European production....

Oh.. and go any buy that shirt... I have the same!!;-))

[identity profile] spedbug.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
I think I'd prefer it be a British production, too (just so long as it made it to America, eventually).

I could buy the shirt...or I could go buy "Once Upon a Mattress" on DVD, right now, at my local book/music store. Immediate gratification and thoughtless consumerism is the American way! ;) I'm off to Borders to buy a DVD. Weee!

[identity profile] sunneschii.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
Hehe!

I normally end buying both.....:-D

[identity profile] spedbug.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
If I hadn't indulged myself (and Savagefuzzball) so much, recently, I probably would buy both but, recently, I've spent more money on frivolous items than I should have.

I thought Mr Fforde rang a bell - my wife is a massive fan. She even made a post about him here:

not much help...

[identity profile] deenbat.livejournal.com 2006-04-14 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
http://amazon.imdb.com/name/nm0275532/

there's nothing up yet on IMDb, but that doesn't mean someone isn't working on something...

I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best. Thanks, deenbat!

just part of the service.

[identity profile] thescrappycat.livejournal.com 2006-04-14 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
They'd probably cast Kirsten Dunst. I cannot stand Kirsten Dunst. She's always so...shiny.

[identity profile] martip.livejournal.com 2006-04-14 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
DEFINITELY no Kirsten Dunst. They need an intelligent woman to play that role.

[identity profile] spedbug.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Well, all they have to do is ask! ;)

[identity profile] spedbug.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
ROFLMAO - love the icon and your post. It was so funny I called Savagefuzzball and her friend, Ellie, in so I could read it to them. They both "snerked", too.

[identity profile] thescrappycat.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Glad to be of service, ma'am!

[identity profile] spedbug.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
That's cute, too. Here's a new one SFB "gave" me.

[identity profile] spedbug.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I saw this pic online and made it into an icon because, well, because it's a wedgie and wedgies are funny! ;)

[identity profile] thescrappycat.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
That one's very cute! I love the way he's bouncing up and down!

What is so special about the T-shirt spedbug ?

[identity profile] ottawabill.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I agree..over $25 seems a lot for it...but I don;t get the attraction.

But then you think wedgies are funny, so maybe we aere different wave lengths.

In Jasper Fforde's "Thursday Next" series of novels, the heroine works for Spec-Ops 27, a government agency that protects literature from "bad guys".

For a really good "layman's" review of the series, go here (http://www.jadeddaisy.net/32/thursday-next).

There is a 13-year-old-boy living in my psyche; I can't help it! Does it help for me to say I loved the movie "Amelie"?

By the way and totally off-topic, I finished watching Season One of Project Runway (thank you again!) and am completely enamored of Jay and his brash-and-witty-but-underneath-very-sweet character. I also fell in love with Austin and particularly love his theatrics in the bonus materials! I can't wait for Season Three!

[identity profile] irascignavojo.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
I <3 Thursday Next

...and as for the price of the T-shirt... well...
...what did you expect from Goliath Corporation, if not overpriced items?

[identity profile] spedbug.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
I <3 her, too!

what did you expect from Goliath Corporation, if not overpriced items?

ROFLMAO! You have a point, there.

[identity profile] thesirannon.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
I want that T-shirt too!!! :D

I heart the Thursday Next series. Can't wait for the new one to come out (this summer?).

But 25$ seems a bit too much... :S

[identity profile] spedbug.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Any idea what the new title of the book will be?

[identity profile] thesirannon.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I was sure I had see it somewhere... but I must have mistaken it with the new 'Nursery Crimes' series, also by Jasper Fforde

[identity profile] drutt.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
Forgive me but... to me, that is such a cheap t-shirt, even with the postage cost. The exchange rate must be a bit skewiffy right now or something.

[identity profile] margeryk.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree, drutt about the cost of the tee shirt.

I love the Thursday Next series too and am rather taken with that tshirt. Still have yet to read 'Something Rotten'.

[identity profile] spedbug.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Something Rotten is good, so far. I'm about halfway through. IMO, it's not quite as entertaining as Well of Lost Plots but it certainly isn't disappointing, either.

If you buy the tee, make sure to post a pic of yourself in it! :)

[identity profile] spedbug.livejournal.com 2006-04-15 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Right now, one GBP is equivalent to ~1.75 USD. So, I'd be paying nearly double for it. Normally, I'd pay no more than $15 for a t-shirt, here, unless it was a specialty shop. Granted, this is a specialty tee but considering I just bought my self the following in the last week or so, I'd feel guilty buying it:

1) A Chorus Line, Original Broadway Cast Recording
2) You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, New Broadway Cast Recording
3) Little Women, Original Broadway Cast Recording
4) Sweeney Todd, 2005 Broadway Revival Cast Recording
5) Once Upon A Mattress, DVD (Carol Burnett, Tracey Ullman)
