I just got off the phone with my sister (one and only sister)

who lives in Australia and who is one of the few of my siblings I really feel connected to.
I love talking to her and catching up but, afterward, I'm always left feeling a bit melancholy.

I miss her. I miss my niece and nephew and my lovely BIL, too. When you love someone a lot the miles that part you seem longer.

Thanks, Amy. I'm off to bed. It's Savagefuzzball's first day back to school, tomorrow and the morning will prove busy. Hopefully, things will look brighter, tomorrow, although the first day back to school tends to make me melancholy, too, after a full summer of having "my baby" at home with me. ;oP

Sorry you are down, spedbug.
:(
I understand how you feel...
*big hugs*
I hope you will feel cheerier in the morning.

Question...
Did your sis marry an Australian?
Or is she an ex-pat?
:D

Thanks, asterapallas. It's morning and I'm a bit cheerier or, at least, more diverted. It's Savagefuzzball's first day of school and I'm playing the role of "hairdresser".

My sister met her Australian husband while living in Florida. He was living there, at the time, but wanted to move home. She went with him and married him, there. That was over 23 years ago.

It really is hard. I have a baby niece and nephew back home in the U.S. and sometimes it just kills me that I don't even know them. I can't wait until someone finally invents the beaming thingie from Star Trek--there are times when it would really come in handy.

WOuldn't that be lovely to just *pop* in and out? It's hard not having our children grow up together but, at least, they love each other very much and thoroughly enjoy the limited times they've spent together.

My sister is in Colorado -- from West Virginia. That's quite far enough, I think.

Though when she's closer we fight constantly! When she's that far away, we talk regularly and enjoy it. So, perhaps for us at least, a little distance is not a bad thing.

PS -- I'm catching up on my friends' journals as I lost track while on vacation. So, hello! A little late, but hugs, nonetheless.
