A religion teacher assigned her class an essay on what makes a good Christian. One student wrote about praying nightly, saying no to abortion, banning gay marriage, and donating money. The other student wrote about talking to God and allowing people to enjoy their lives, and supporting gay marriage. The day the teacher was to hand the papers back, she called up the second student and told him she would pray for him when he went to hell. The student asked why would he be going to hell, and why he got an F on his paper. The teacher told him that Catholicism is against gay marriage. The student looked at her for a minute, then said aloud, "I'm gay." The teacher kicked him out of class as if he had said f**k or worshiped Satan. A girl in the back of class who had a boyfriend and was obviously straight got up and left too.

If you would leave the classroom, re-post this. It doesn't matter if you're straight, bi, or gay. It doesn't matter if you're Catholic or not. Everyone is a human being and deserves happiness.

If we're going on the assumption that I am an adult in this class then I would argue with the teacher, complain to whomever employed him/her and fight to have the teacher removed from his/her position if they didn't stop discriminating. If I were a minor, I'd have probably argued a bit but stayed in the class and kept my mouth shut. Walking out of a class would have gotten me in major hot water at home (my parents are educators). However, once I got home and told my father and step-mother, they would have probably called and complained.
I'd just like to point out that it isn't just Catholicism that is against gay marriage. Many Christian denominations are against gay marriage and are much more vociferous about it in their teachings. Most Catholics (even teachers) are raised with a more "it's wrong but we love you anyway" sort of outlook so this teacher who kicked the gay kid out of her class doesn't ring "true" to me ...at least, not as a Catholic.

Oh, no! Not saccharine sweet at all. Just so achingly cute I want to squeeze the kitten until it pops.
