The latest two (taken, most recently, from bookczuk)

Do you read me?

If you read me on a regular/semi regular basis, leave me a comment and let me know.

Then post this in your journal and find out who reads you

A religion teacher assigned her class an essay on what makes a good Christian. One student wrote about praying nightly, saying no to abortion, banning gay marriage, and donating money. The other student wrote about talking to God and allowing people to enjoy their lives, and supporting gay marriage. The day the teacher was to hand the papers back, she called up the second student and told him she would pray for him when he went to hell. The student asked why would he be going to hell, and why he got an F on his paper. The teacher told him that Catholicism is against gay marriage. The student looked at her for a minute, then said aloud, "I'm gay." The teacher kicked him out of class as if he had said f**k or worshiped Satan. A girl in the back of class who had a boyfriend and was obviously straight got up and left too.

If you would leave the classroom, re-post this. It doesn't matter if you're straight, bi, or gay. It doesn't matter if you're Catholic or not. Everyone is a human being and deserves happiness.

If we're going on the assumption that I am an adult in this class then I would argue with the teacher, complain to whomever employed him/her and fight to have the teacher removed from his/her position if they didn't stop discriminating. If I were a minor, I'd have probably argued a bit but stayed in the class and kept my mouth shut. Walking out of a class would have gotten me in major hot water at home (my parents are educators). However, once I got home and told my father and step-mother, they would have probably called and complained.
I'd just like to point out that it isn't just Catholicism that is against gay marriage. Many Christian denominations are against gay marriage and are much more vociferous about it in their teachings. Most Catholics (even teachers) are raised with a more "it's wrong but we love you anyway" sort of outlook so this teacher who kicked the gay kid out of her class doesn't ring "true" to me ...at least, not as a Catholic.

I read ya!

I read your journal

[identity profile] kitsunecharmed.livejournal.com 2005-08-05 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I even try out stuff you do, like interpretive dance. :-)

The more I think about that little parable, the more I think the most important thing to me would be to find the young man who was summarily kicked out and let him know that the entire world didn't think he was bad because he was gay. Later for getting the teacher fired. But that is just me.

xoxo

PS I'm afraid to post the "do you read me" thing in my journal!

yup, read ya :)

I was honestly confused by the combination of capital C Christian, capital C Catholic and lower-case c catholic in that story to know exactly what was being referred to. I wished it would have just said "religion teacher" and been done with it. But, I decided that given the story at face value, I would walk out, so I decided to post it too.

Sometimes late-night posting ain't so good. .. (also evidenced by my phone post!)

It's not just religious groups - we've got people elected to public office who se attitudes to gay relationships leave a lot to be desired. But I've already griped about it in my own journal, so I won't start in yours. :D

Oh yeah, and I read you, but as I've told bountifulpots I shan't be putting it in my LJ. It really hurts to break the rules though.

Of course I read your journal - and listen to it now as well!

[identity profile] mollydot.livejournal.com 2005-08-05 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, I read it. I haven't listened to any of the phone posts though.

Yeppers!

I've recently started reading you...

[identity profile] amyleaton.livejournal.com 2005-08-05 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Since the beginning-to-be-infamous interpretive insurance dance. Couldn't take the chance on missing more of that...

Oh, and I like to think I would say something but in reality, I couldn't stand to be the focus of attention. So I'd probably complain to the administration and/or drop the class. I might say something to the teacher just not in front of the whole class!

No I never read you.

Who are you again?

What am I doing here?

;-P

[identity profile] jas330.livejournal.com 2005-08-05 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I do!

[identity profile] mlbish.livejournal.com 2005-08-05 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I read you! Yes, yes I do.

And I listen to your phone posts (they were lovely by the way).

And I envisioned your interpretive dance and giggled. :)

Yes, I read you.

[identity profile] buffra.livejournal.com 2005-08-05 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
And, in honor of you, I dance -- interpretively -- while I read.

[identity profile] eireannaigh.livejournal.com 2005-08-05 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I read you loud and clear.

[identity profile] reggiesgirl2.livejournal.com 2005-08-06 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. I read you ... every day.

I just had a flashback to Sixth Sense.
