Last night, MrBug comes downstairs after his shower with a wee beastie on a piece of toilet paper. "Is that a tick?" he asks. It doesn't look like the ticks I'm used to seeing but, on an image search, it does resemble a blood-filled deer tick. I put the tick in a jar and tell MrBug to watch the red spot where the tiny arachnid was found. If it develops a rash, we'll take the jar with us to the doctor's office.

Later yesterday evening, I get a forwarded e-mail from an acquaintance in Florida about brown recluse spiders and how nasty their bites are. In the body of the e-mail are pictures of a person's thumb, growing progressively more disgusting, where a brown recluse has bitten them. In case you weren't aware, brown recluse spider bites cause extensive tissue damage. At the end is a lovely close-up shot of a brown recluse spider with a gleam in its eye that says "You're next!".

Today, ticks and brown recluse spiders have been dogging my heels. They're lurking in grocery bags, lying in wait in the shower, in the linen closet towels, in my purse, waiting to get me. I hate when people remind me of stuff like this. :(

On a happier note, we went and picked up the bathroom door, this evening, along with the rest of the insulation we'll need for the walls. While at the store, we picked up a construction-type stapler to affix the insulation to the studs. I really enjoyed using it and declared it "mine". MrBug said I needed to write my name on it so he didn't forget:

Boots just came in from outside, where it's raining. She stands and meows at me until I dry her with a hand towel. Am I well-trained or what? As I dried her I sang, "Don't be a naughty kitten; love, love me do, my sweet, embraceable Boots".

I pulled a tick out of my head the other day. Pull them off the boys a couple times a week. It's those ity bity tiny bastards that you have to watch out for.

grew up around recluses. They love it here. No web? your dead!

remember that in a persons life time they will swallow 7 spiders while they sleep {in Kansas 3 will be black widows} and you are never more than 3 feet from a spider.

Sleep well! :)

We had to vaccinate [livejournal.com profile] gwenw for ticks, as Borelliosis, a bad nerve-infection is not the only thing they can bring. This area, sadly, is also a german hotspot for FSME, early summer meningo-encephalitis, which, if caught, can't really be treated and renders your brain... well... disfunct.

I hate ticks and always check myself after being in undergrowth and bushes, so they don't get to settle down on me.

Luckily, MrBug found this one on him before it managed to burrow its head in for a prolonged feast.

I checked the site of the bite, last night, and it looked fine.

Ticks and mosquitos not only are bothersome, these days, but potentially fatal. :(

I actually had Lyme Disease... Mr czuk thinks that's what screwed up my immune system and set me up for the latex allergy. He saw a real change in my vibrancy and health after that damn tick bit me...

I had a good friend who had to put off having a third child because of Lyme Disease. It's a bad bad thing. I'd be inclined to agree with Mr czuk.

EEEEE!!!! Those kinds of things scare me to death, and there's really not much you can do about them if you want to live a normal life.

I told MrBish that I wanted to give back our new house because it had too many spiders.

Glad to hear the construction is going well. I was thinking of you as we did lots of house work this weekend. Pulling carpet and the like. Will post pics eventually.
