For [livejournal.com profile] mlbish

If you're not [livejournal.com profile] mlbish, I'm wondering what made you want to see these! LOL!

This is just regular trim, taped at the top (to keep paint from getting on the wall, obviously) and at the bottom, against the carpet. When I tape the carpet, I leave a little extra (about 1/16th of an inch) curling up toward the trim and then use my fingers to push it down where the carpet begins to curve downward.

This "special" taping is a bit more of a bitch-kitty. It's the same idea but takes smaller pieces of tape and more patience. I use that around the door trim and stuff like this railing. It take a bit of time, all together (about 1/2 hour or so) but it saves a lot of time and headaches in the long run.

Good luck! :)

Cool! Thanks. :-) I've scrutinized the pics and added them to my memories. The trim in our house is in terrible shape and *is* going to have to be painted.

One other question: When you paint the doors, do you take them down and outside (or wherever) and paint them, or do you just do it as they hang? It seems like the officially "correct" thing to do would be to take them down and take off the hinges, etc. but that seems like a lot lot lot of trouble.

Very helpful, speddy. Thanks! :-)

You're more than welcome. :) I hate painting trim because of all the prep work but I'm always struck by how much neater/cleaner the room looks once it's done. After I'm done, I always vow I'll be much more careful with the vacuum and carrying things upstairs so as not to scar it but, inevitably, I get lazy and make it look crappy again. ;)

As for doors, it's probably a lot easier to take them down in the long run but I don't. I paint them while they're hanging. In fact, I'm taking a break, right now, from painting doors and jambs. I feel like jambing my head against a door, at this point! ;oP
