A registered sex offender moved in on the street that runs parallel to ours. Yet more shed and garage break-ins, lately (I asked the cop who stopped by to see if we'd heard anything during the last break-in, "Is it mostly teens?" He replied, "Teens and crackheads". Oh joy). We're working very hard in the addition because, when it's done, we're putting our house on the market and getting out of this neighborhood before it nose-dives us right into the dirt.

I'm sorry if I've missed anything important. Hugs and vibes to all that need them.

Ah, I love the smell of spackle in the morning.

I was in the same situation about five years ago. I was living alone across the street from drug dealers and a guy that was just short of stalking me. I was lucky and managed to get out of there but I spent a lot of nights awake. I hope you are able to move soon.

Sounds awful - I'm glad to hear you've moved on.

The thing is, when we moved into the neighborhood fifteen years ago it was mostly elderly people with a smattering of working class Joes like me and MrBug. Since the elderly people have moved on, permanently, the neighborhood has become seedier and seedier. Our area is still fairly nice (the streets closest to the main road) but the back of the neighborhood has gotten really bad (think couches on the front porch, overgrown lawns, etc.) There's been a stabbing in our neighborhood as well as one pretty sizeable heroin bust, all toward the back (it's a pretty big neighborhood) but the tide has definitely turn and it's not a place we want to be any more. We've stuck it out this long because we had hoped to move after SFB finished high school.

SFB is doing well, thanks. :)

Together, we'd kick his 6'3", 230 lb. ass! Right? Right?.... Yes, he's *that* big and he's considered "high risk". :(

The mostly petty crimes coupled with the slow decline of the neighborhood had us contemplating moving for some time but this just gave us that extra "push".

Not that I think sex offenders can't be anywhere (obviously they can - from all walks of life) but it just seemed like a "memo from above", when I got the automated call from the police, that we needed to stop contemplating and do something about moving to a nicer area.

I don't like change but sometimes it's necessary.

I hope all goes well and progresses quickly. And that the house selling/buying thing also goes well.

Keep us posted when you get the chance. Otherwise we'll have to think about sending in the SWAT team. (armed with rubber chickens, fuzzy kittens, and really big, HEAVY free books!)
